NUTRI-VET® FISH OIL SOFTGELS (100 ct) contain a potent blend of omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants to help maintain healthy skin and a glossy coat, while minimizing normal shedding.  Easy-to-give, these veterinary formulated softgels are a wonderful complement to a dog's normal diet.

The skin is the body's largest organ system.  It protects an animal from injury and infection, helps control internal temperature, and serves as a reservoir for certain nutrients.  The hair coat insulates the body and shields the skin from injury due to sunlight, heat and irritants.  The health of the skin and quality of the hair coat are affected by a dog's diet, lifestyle, environment, genetics and care.  It is clear that nutrients and nutrient levels have a direct impact on skin and coat health.  Because each animal has specific and individual needs, feeding even well balanced, premium foods may not be enough to optimize the condition of the skin and coat.

Key Components

  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids such as DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) and EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) help reduce inflammatory skin reactions in dogs.  These two important fatty acids are found in high levels in fish oil.  Only omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil have been shown to reduce inflammation.
  • Omega-6 Fatty Acids, including linoleic acid, help maintain the epidermal water barrier function of the skin.  This may explain why instances of dry, dull hair coat, and scaling non-pruritic skin disorders in dogs generally respond to the addition of vegetable oils to the diet.
  • Vitamin A is a fat-soluble antioxidant needed for maintaining normal skin, preventing eye problems and enhancing immunity.  A deficiency of vitamin A can cause skin lesions, including dryness and cracking of the skin.
  • Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidation by free radicals and promotes healthy skin and hair.
